Our calendar runs on desert time — big season from October to April, quieter and cooler at night all summer.
Apache Junction has always been a gathering place. Prospectors, ranchers, and dust-covered travelers met where the Apache Trail leaves the valley, and the habit stuck: today the same crossroads hosts a century-old rodeo, one of the country’s largest Renaissance festivals just up the highway, ghost-town gunfights, and a farmers market in the shadow of the Superstitions.

Wildlife of the Sonoran Desert – Guided Hike
Learn about the amazing and diverse wildlife of the Sonoran Desert on this guided hike with Arizona State Park volunteers. This will be an easy, 1-mile, out-and-back hike with little elevation gain and some loose, steep terrain in parts. The hike will be about an hour at a social pace, and will stop to observe interpretive signs and discuss interesting facts about wildlife.
Children (ages 8 and up) and leashed dogs are welcome. Bring good shoes and water. Meet at the Palo Verde Day Use Ramada. The program is free with paid park entry. Hike will be limited to the first 12 participants on a first come, first serve basis.

2026 Paranormal Festival
The Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum hosts its annual Paranormal Festival October 17, 2026. Visit product and food vendors and services, hear lectures from the best in the Paranormal community, participate in a family ghost tour, or become captivated on the evening Paranormal Investigation with AZ Ghost Tours.
The festival itself is free! Join us for all the fun from 9-4!

2026 Halloween Festival
Get ready for a night of Halloween fun at Apache Junction’s annual Halloween Festival, happening Saturday, October 24, from 4-8 p.m. at Superstition Shadows Park! Best of all, admission is free. Dress up your favorite little ghosts and goblins and head over for the popular Trunk or Treat, where local businesses fill their decorated vehicles with plenty of candy. Enjoy live music from local band Zero Reasons, get creative with pumpkin painting and decorating, and explore a frightfully fun lineup of games, crafts, inflatables, food trucks and more. Don’t miss the Pumpkin Patch, sponsored by Apache Junction Little League!
The fun gets even more festive with costume contests beginning at 5 p.m., with age-based categories for the little—and not-so-little—creatures of the night. Bring along your pre-carved masterpiece for the Pumpkin Carving Contest and submit it by 6 p.m. for a chance to win, then stick around for the Howl-o-ween Canine Costume Contest and see which four-legged fashionista steals the show! With community nonprofits, local organizations, and event sponsors helping make the celebration possible, this free family-friendly festival is the perfect place to make some Halloween memories under the Arizona stars.

You’ll spend an hour exploring the trails and learning about local cacti, trees, and shrubs, seeing how they’ve adapted to grow in and support this ecosystem. Expect some small hills and loose gravel with no shade or places to sit. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

2026 Veteran’s Day Parade
Stand proud and celebrate the heroes who have served our country at the Apache Junction Veterans Day Parade! This beloved community tradition brings patriotic spirit to the streets of Apache Junction with a colorful procession honoring veterans from every branch of the U.S. military. Grab your family, find a spot along the route, and enjoy the music, flags, floats, and hometown energy as the community comes together to say “thank you” to those who have worn the uniform.
There’s something special about experiencing Veterans Day in a community surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Superstition Mountains. Wave your flags, cheer for the veterans, and soak up the small-town spirit that makes Apache Junction such a memorable place to visit. Whether you’re a longtime local or discovering the area for the first time, the parade is a wonderful way to celebrate service, sacrifice, and the American spirit—all with a little Apache Junction flair!

Learn how to distinguish between birds and seek out our avian friends from hawks to hummingbirds throughout the trail. Be prepared for a 1-mile, slow-paced bird walk on moderate, rocky terrain with a mild 150ft elevation gain. The program takes about 1.5 hours.
Please wear close-toed shoes, and don’t forget water, a hat, and binoculars! Ages 10 and up are welcome.
To increase chances of bird sightings, no pets please.

• Artisans: Lost wax casting, leather craft, metalwork, Americana, and frontier clothing.
• Cultural Creators: Indigenous art, craft, and jewelry.
• Purveyors: “Snake oil” and apothecary/botanicals, custom boot and hat makers, basket and blanket weavers.
• Eats: Cottage bakers with rustic, homemade goods.
• Talent: Strolling musicians, balladeers, reenactors, cowboy poets, and historic performers.

2026 Holiday Event & Light Parade
Celebrate the season in true Apache Junction style at the award-winning, free Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 3-6:30 p.m. at Flatiron Park! Bring the whole family for an evening packed with holiday cheer, including the Winter Wonderland, photos with Santa, festive games, music, inflatables, vendor booths, food, and plenty of seasonal fun.
Most youth activities are free, while food and select vendor offerings are available for an additional cost. As the evening winds down, head to the Focal Point at 6:30 p.m. to watch the town light up with the annual Tree Lighting.
Then keep the holiday spirit rolling with Apache Junction’s Annual Holiday Light Parade, beginning at 7 p.m. Watch dazzling floats and festive entries make their way from Phelps Road and Main Street west to Gold Drive before returning along Phelps Road. With twinkling lights, holiday music, and plenty of community spirit, it’s the perfect way to kick off the season.
Plan ahead for road closures and increased pedestrian traffic from approximately 5-10 p.m., and use the dirt lots east of Flatiron Park for event parking. Come early, bundle up, and get ready for a night of small-town holiday magic under the Superstition Mountains!

As the sun sinks in the western sky, painting a golden glow on Superstition Mountain, enjoy Steve’s songs and stories. All of the songs, whether John Denver, Eagles, Irish, folk, or original will have a western connection.
Bring a chair, or use the picnic benches (though not quite as comfy as your favorite chair). You will be asked to sing along on some songs, so don’t forget to hydrate!

2027 Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo
Lost Dutchman Days continues to be “the fun place to be for all ages.” The annual event has 3 days of Professional Rodeo action, a carnival that features 30+ rides, and carnival attractions. The parade is always a favorite and attracts thousands of spectators from around the valley. Don’t forget the rodeo dance held at the Elks Lodge 2349 on Friday night.
Thrown into all this action is a full entertainment schedule for our spectators with a stage of free quality entertainment which provides continuous daily music from local bands. What would any event be without plenty of food and vendor booths to browse and drool over, we will have plenty, with over 100 set up to keep you busy.
The Lost Dutchman Days Committee partners up with various youth-serving organizations and sponsors to provide this opportunity to entertain the entire family. There is something here for everyone that visits Apache Junction on Lost Dutchman Days weekend. Profits from this event are donated back to these youth organizations and other youth-serving programs of the Apache Junction Community, ensuring the opportunity to reach the ultimate goal of “Putting Smiles on Kid’s Faces.”
2027 Superstition Sleepover
Grab your tent, sleeping bags, and your family and join Parks and Recreation for a campout in the park. Enjoy a full day of fun that includes outdoor activities, arts and crafts, camp activities, and more. The evening will be followed up with a campsite contest, smores, and more! Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served for dinner and a light breakfast will be served the next morning.
2027 Desert Delights Family Day
Get up close with some of Arizona’s most fascinating desert residents at Desert Delights Family Days at the Lost Dutchman Museum in Apache Junction!
This family-friendly event gives visitors a chance to learn about native reptiles and discover more about the creatures that call the Sonoran Desert home. It’s a fun, hands-on way for kids and adults alike to meet these scaly desert dwellers, learn about their unique adaptations, and gain a new appreciation for Arizona’s remarkable wildlife—all surrounded by the legendary beauty of the Superstition Mountains.

2027 Earth Day Celebration & Ladybug Release
Earth Day Celebration & Ladybug Release! This year’s event will be hosted at Flatiron Park, located at 100 N. Apache Trail, Apache Junction on April 11th from 9am-11am.
Be a part of releasing thousands of ladybugs, plant seedlings, create arts and crafts, and more! The park will be filled with interesting facts about ladybugs and Palo Verde trees. Come and spend a morning in the park learning about our earth and how to keep our environment healthy! Releasing the ladybugs is a hands-on experience, so we recommend following all the posted guidelines. Ladybugs are not harmful to humans.
